Wisdom teeth,
also referred to as third molars, are the last teeth to erupt inside the mouth.
This generally occurs between ages of 17 and 25, an opportunity of life having
been known as “Age of Wisdom.” Anthropologists be sure to note that the rough
diet of early humans brought about the excessive wear with their teeth. Normal
drifting of the teeth to compensate because of this wear ensured that space was
available for everyone wisdom teeth to erupt by adolescence. Changes in diet to
softer foods of recent day have reduced the normal drifting which often results
in limited space in the rear of the mouth where wisdom teeth normally erupt.
